masksandcapes: In honour of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), I’ve decided to share this photo with you all. It depicts Jewish prisoners from Auschwitz-Birkenau after being processed by American soldiers, having been rescued earlier that day. The man looking at the camera is my grandfather, Eddie Schmeiser. Eddie lost his mother and 4 of his 8 siblings in the Holocaust. They were all gassed to death. Years after the photo was taken, someone recognized my pappy and sent it to him. My dad showed me this picture today, and I burst out into tears. This post is to pay tribute to my 92-year-old grandfather, and the 6 million Jewish lives that were lost in the Holocaust.
